We believe that support and information are an important part
of recovery and to be heard starts that healing and empowerment process. At our
six programs in distinct boroughs of New York City, peer advocates work in partnership
with recipients dealing with issues of mental illness, chemical addictions, homelessness,
and low incomes. They address financial and housing survival, assistance with entitlements:
Social Security, Social Security appeals, Medicaid, public assistance and food
stamp applications, employment needs and educational counseling assistance. Using
these peer-to-peer partnerships, individually and in classes, we facilitate Double
Trouble in Recovery (DTR) presentations and meetings for people with co-occurring
mental illness and substance abuse issues. There are also many workshops and meetings
on recovery and mind/body wellness. We have a multicultural staff but as needed
we will get you a translator.

"To know that I can pass on my recovery experience and
that helps others to have a home, to have money, to find a job and to live with
pride in their community is a great gift to me as a staff member." –ST
